SPORTS INJURIES

Sports Injuries

Any foot and ankle clinic sees plenty of sports injuries because it is so easy to incur this kind of injury when on the court, diamond or field. But of course, the kinds of injuries commonly thought of as sports injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere. Running to catch a bus, stepping off a curb in a hurry, becoming distracted while going up and down stairs—any of these everyday events can result in foot or ankle injuries.

Immediate care for these injuries is vital to prevent long-term issues and even some short-term issues like blood clots. We all rely on the health of our feet and lower legs for our mobility. We recommend making an appointment to see one of our doctors as soon as possible after experiencing an injury normally thought of as the type resulting from sports activities.

Surgical Interventions for Sports Injuries

Some sports injuries call for immediate surgical treatment to ensure a good outcome. For example:

  • Achilles or other tendon rupture
  • Displaced fracture of foot or ankle
  • Open fracture of foot or ankle

As often as possible, our surgeries are done on an outpatient basis. That means that even if we observe a patient all day after their morning surgery, they go home that night.

We have excellent relationships with six major hospitals in the Austin area, should anyone need a longer stay in a hospital.

Because we have digital x-ray facilities in both our offices, we can determine the seriousness of many of these injuries in just minutes. Should more detailed imaging be needed, we have a close relationship with offices offering more advanced imaging, right in our Southwest Austin office.

If you experience one of these injuries on the playing field or in your front yard, please contact us immediately for diagnosis and treatment.
