FOOT AND ANKLE SPORTS INJURIES

Foot and Ankle Sports Injuries

Each of your feet has 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. All of these parts are intimately connected with your ability to engage in sports or even just to walk down the street. When any of them are injured or become sore, it often becomes impossible to participate in your favorite sports. It can even become difficult to care for yourself normally.

That’s when we can help. We provide care every day for foot and ankle sports injuries for patients who are professional athletes and those who only participate on the weekends. But we also know that the same types of injuries can occur from stepping off a curb the wrong way or jumping off a low wall.

Common Sports-Related Foot and Ankle Injuries

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Broken ankles
  • Broken toes
  • Jammed toes
  • Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
  • Sesamoiditis (inflammation in the ball of the foot)
  • Soft tissue trauma
  • Sprained ankles
  • Stress fractures
  • Turf toe

Our philosophy is to start treatment as conservatively as possible. Some of these injuries may be able to be addressed with short-term medical care or physical therapy. Many injuries require some type of immobilization while they heal. At Southwest Austin Foot and Ankle Clinic, we have everything you need to immobilize your foot or ankle immediately to start the healing.

Surgical Solutions

Of course, some foot and ankle injuries from sports or just life will require surgery for a complete recovery. Fractures, tendon ruptures and chronic ankle instability may need this more advanced care to fully resolve.

Our highly experienced podiatric surgeons have hospital privileges at many facilities in the Austin area. We are on call at these hospitals as well, so if you arrive in the hospital with a foot or ankle injury, we may meet you there first.
